Gender Inclusive Reformer – Jahnavi Amara
“Participating in the workshops made me realize that people aren’t that afraid of change as they think they are.” – Jahnavi Amara (He/They), Gender Inclusive Reformer
For ChangeWarrior Jahnavi, the project at TribesforGOOD on Gender & Mental Health was a significant means to reaffirm to themself what they had perceived about their own gender identity. From realizing that gender is a spectrum to reiterating it to more young students, the project was a learning curve & a teaching opportunity. Jahnavi acknowledged that it was important to find one’s passion and use it to fuel activism.
Awareness on gender stereotypes is necessary at grassroots level as young children do not have access to relevant resources. They not only become victims but also perpetrators of gender-based bullying & crimes.
Jahnavi’s Reflections
We have to be kind while building a society where everyone feels safe. Never underestimate someone’s ability to comprehend a certain subject. More importantly, know that if you’re willing to teach, there are people willing to learn.
Conscious Activism
Jahnavi believes that we have to constantly check in with ourselves for unconscious biases and stereotypes we hold. They reinforced that actions following awareness take time to bring real changes yet were necessary nonetheless. A conscious activist looking to continue the momentum of change, they were also a guest speaker for one of the subsequent tribes of ChangeWarriors working on a similar project. Jahnavi is now working on creating Gender-related infotainment content through Claymation.
