Gender Justice Advocate – Haimi Kothari
“It’s thorougly liberating and utterly empowering to connect with a bunch of women survivors of human trafficking who’ve been rebuilding themselves rigorously.”- Haimi Kothari, Gender Justice Advocate
ChangeWarrior Haimi Kothari knew that silence could never defeat systematic patriarchy and oppression. Her angst at living in a society with gender injustice & stigma toward mental health issues turned into a passionate fire to fight for change. It led her to support women survivors of human trafficking who were reintegrating back into society, through the project at TribesforGOOD. She knew she was part of a movement gaining voice slowly.
Second chances are rarely given to women survivors of gender-based violence. Even when given, they aren’t adequately supported to utilize them. Survivors often feel left behind.
Haimi’s Reflections
I always knew deep down in my heart that I wanted to help others experiencing heart-wrenching problems. This program has taught me that life has so much potential if you don’t reduce it to what has happened to you but rather what can be done despite it.
Voicing Out for Change
The young, strong-willed ChangeWarrior never fails to use her voice to speak for the less-supported. Haimi struck a chord with the women survivors as she narrated her own ordeal with mental health due to body shaming and chronic episodes of stress. A vociferous advocate for gender justice & mental health, she urges everyone to awaken to the reality beyond social media activism, and step up for women who are striving to reclaim their dignity in life, despite the injustice meted out to them.
