In conversation with Kanika- the SCIENCE enthusiast
Since early 2021, we have been engaged with a group of students from NGO PRATYeK to make online learning easy for them. Through our “I have a Doubt” campaign we have covered several concepts in Science, English and more. Kanika, a 9th grader from Atal Adarsh Vidyalaya Havlock Square School in New Delhi has been associated with us since the beginning.
She has been learning from our Young Changemakers and was always eager to learn. In spite of coming from an underserved community, Kanika overcame the challenges by consistently putting in efforts. To understand her ideas on her future and education, our Team at TribesforGood recently connected with her over a call.
Take a look at the conversation below:
Q:Why do you think education is important?
K:Studying different subjects at school and also learning about the current social issues like climate change, child rights, etc at an early age helps us to become aware of what is happening in the world. This will help us to do better in our lives in the future!
Q:Which is your favorite subject to study?
K:My favorite subject is Science.
Q:How did your school cope with COVID- 19, did you have online classes? And what is the most difficult part when it comes to online classes?
K: Yes, we have online classes, however from October students have the option of attending offline classes at school!
It is difficult to understand topics when taught online due to network issues. Also, due to long hours on mobile, I get headaches and feel irritation in my eyes . But I try my best to understand topics taught online!
Q:How long have you been attending the online classes conducted by TribesforGOOD, have they helped you in any way?
K:The online classes with TribesforGOOD helps me understand different topics in Maths and Science like ‘Number Systems’ that we are currently studying. This further helps me better comprehend the same topic taught in my other classes at school and PRATYeK.
Q:What are your future aspirations?
K:I want to either become a Scientist or an Archaeologist!
Isn’t she inspiring! Every month around 10 students from TribesforGOOD’s Global Challenges and Social Justice program work with students like Kanika. If you feel strongly about educational crisis in India and want to make a change, write to us at archana@tribesforgood.com
