The Bad Apples Campaign 🍎
In a world where domestic abuse remains shrouded in silence, sometimes all it takes is a simple idea to ignite a powerful movement. Meet Vedika and Abhishek, two passionate high school students who embarked on a remarkable journey to raise awareness and funds for the organisation Kshamata (https://www.kshamata.org/impact.php) through the innovative Bad Apples campaign. This unique TribesforGOOD initiative not only captured the attention of their community but also made a tangible impact in supporting survivors of domestic abuse.
Vedika and Abhishek recognised that victims of domestic abuse often feel isolated and alone, except for brief moments during their visits to grocery stores and markets. Leveraging this insight, they partnered with a local mall to set up a booth featuring bruised apples. Each apple was labeled with helpline numbers and a QR code leading to a fundraising page for Kshamata. This simple but ingenious idea allowed them to reach a broad audience and provide them with a tangible way to contribute to the cause. They were able to raise a cumulative sum of Rs. 30,000 in just 3 days! If you’d like to support their campaign, click here to donate – Fundraiser
Hear the success story straight from our Changemakers,
Vedika Agarwal a student of the Indus International School Pune shared excitedly, “We set up our bad apples booth in premier plaza today. Most of the crowd was uneducated and from lower backgrounds but they did visit our stalls and we educated them further about the cause of our campaign and why they should donate. Few people donated small amounts which we really appreciated. Some people especially men seemed to be sensitive towards this cause and didn’t hear us out but a lot of women and families were interested in the campaign. Today we raised around 5000 rupees including the cash and online payments. Overall it was a good experience!! :)”
Here is what Abhishek Iyer, a student at DAV Public School, Pune said, “The campaign went well today. There was more footfall than yesterday. We did it at the same location Premier Plaza Mall. A lot of educated people really appreciated the idea behind the campaign as well. Today we actually encountered a victim of domestic violence but before we could talk to her she just walked away. Our very first donor was actually one of the cleaning ladies there. She donated 35 rupees in cash on Friday and today when we went to ask her name so we could note it down she donated another 100 rupees saying that she wanted to help out!“
The Power of Metaphor: Unveiling the “Bad Apples”:
Metaphors have a remarkable ability to convey complex concepts and inspire action. Bad Apples typically refers to individuals who act as bad players within society. By utilising this metaphor, the campaign sought to expose those responsible for perpetrating domestic abuse, challenging societal norms and mobilising the community to confront the issue head-on.
