STEM-possible Dreamer- Somin Narain
“I want to create a technological platform where students from all backgrounds can share their experiences, learn from each other and eventually provide tutorials benefiting other students.” – Somin Narain, STEM-possible Dreamer
ChangeWarrior Somin Narain is a skilled conqueror of many things – his learning disability, his disinterest in Mathematics, bullying from peers and the lack of students’ interest in learning STEM. At TribesforGOOD, Somin used his personal experiences to make Mathematics, especially Algebra, less scary & more learnable for students from humble backgrounds. His zest for making learning interesting ensured that students competed to answer his questions and solve mathematical problems.
A study says that students who perform well in Algebra have better chances to explore advanced STEM courses and are more likely to go on to well-paid, in-demand careers.
Somin’s Reflections
Algebra or Mathematics should not limit a student’s dreams. It should not cause a lack of confidence rather it must lay out new opportunities for them to pursue and build better careers for themselves. They just need a little extra support and motivation.
Large-scale STEM Mentoring
Given STEM’s significance in today’s digital world, Somin realized that his mentoring was needed now more than ever. It even prompted him to change his teaching style so that his students would not lose interest. While he continues to mentor young minds as a Student Success Coach, he’s also keen to expand his efforts with a superior technological platform to make it STEM-possible for more students.
